“Being a golfer, it was cool to be involved in the Quail Hollow PGA Championship in Charlotte!” Brent Thompson, Production Manager, Heritage Signs & Displays.

Heritage Signs & Displays provided 6 signage projects for BORN, the advertising agency hired by Lexmark, sponsor of the 2017 Quail Hollow PGA Championship in Charlotte. All signage was printed in the Heritage Signs & Displays facility in Charlotte and installed at the Marriott Hotel, which hosted most of the professional golfers and their teams.

Vertical Window Graphics:

The 30 glass windows formed a single wall, which was wrapped with a full-color, custom printed golf graphic. The individual graphics flowed from pane to pane to create a single image over the massive 10’ glass wall. Heritage Signs & Displays printed on a removable Mohave vinyl, because the window graphics were temporary for the 4-day event. The install took Thompson and his team 6 hours to install, with a removal time of 2 hours.

Elevator Graphics

Elevator Wraps:

4 elevators, consisting of 8 doors, were wrapped to provide an impressive representation of a golf course. Each pair of elevator doors had a unique image, installed across both doors. Thompson said, “Wrapping the elevators could have been a challenge, but the team at Marriott made it easy by controlling access during the install.”

Extra Large Banner

Fabric Banner:

Heritage Signs & Displays latex printed the Lexmark brand on a 20’ vertical fabric banner and installed it on a column at the Marriott. The banner was made with pole pockets and dowels to prominently display the extra-large banner to the golfing community.

Custom Display

Golf Tees:

Heritage Signs & Displays made 6 jumbo golf tees, holding a super-sized golf ball, to depict a tee box. A planter box was fitted with ½” custom cut foam core, covered in artificial turf, that held the tee and ball ready to “Tee Off”. Contour cut Lexmark decals were installed on the golf balls.

Meter Boards:

Heritage Signs & Displays custom printed 2 meter boards for the event. Both 3’ x 7’ boards were used for directional and agenda signage. The signs were single side printed on black Gator Board, to have black edges, and installed in free standing Mighty Mounts bases.

Horizontal Window Graphic:

This unique window banner was custom printed, *front side and 2^nd surface, to be visible from both sides of the glass. The 20’ x 18” graphic was installed on an entrance door of the hotel.

*Front side print puts the ink on the front of the vinyl. 2^nd surface print places the ink on the back (adhesive side) of the vinyl.

40^th Anniversary

January marked the 40^th year Heritage Signs & Displays has been in the printing business. Heritage Signs & Displays was established in 1977 in the Gass family garage in Leonardtown, Louisville, KY by Allen and Margaret as Gass Printing Service. In 1988, following six years of service in the United States Navy, their son Joe, along with his brother Steve, purchased the company and re-branded it as Heritage Signs & Displays.

In 2017, Heritage Signs & Displays expanded the business to include their sister company, Heritage Signs & Displays located in Charlotte, NC and Louisville, KY. Heritage Signs & Displays serves local and national customers with commercial printing and wide format custom signage.

Best of Show

Heritage Signs & Displays joined PICA in 2008. The PICA Foundation was formed as a charitable organization to promote education in the printing industry in North and South Carolina. In 2008, Heritage Signs & Displays began submitting projects and winning awards at the annual banquet. The 2017 PICA awards banquet marked Heritage Signs & Displays with over 40 awards, including the Mac Papers Best of Show.

The PICA Awards attracted more than 670 entries from 53 printing companies, along with more than 170 entries from 7 graphic arts high schools and 6 college graphic arts programs from across the Carolinas.

Heritage Signs & Displays, Inc. won 30 Best of Category Awards, 12 Special Judges Awards and 3 Awards of Excellence. Only one “Best of” may be given in each category. One or more Special Judges Award or Award of Excellence may be given in each category, limited to no more than one third of total entries per category. Heritage Signs & Displays, Inc. also won the Gutenberg Award, Domtar Best Printer’s Self Promotion, Lindenmeyr Munroe Best Presentation Kit, Xerox Best Printing Division A (1 to 9 Employees) & the Mac Papers Best of Show award.

The “Bennies”

The Printing Industry of America (PIA) has announced that Heritage Signs & Displays, Inc. of Charlotte, NC & Louisville, KY is an award winner in the 2017 PIA Awards Competition, winning three “Bennies” and four Certificates of Merit.

The announcement was made September 10, 2017, during the Print 17 Awards Banquet in Chicago, Illinois, with more than 300 industry professionals in attendance. The PIA Awards competition is a national competition with numerous countries represented, including: United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and Mexico.

The Benjamin Franklin trophy, aka “Bennie” is awarded to the individual printing category winners. A panel of judges with extensive experience in printing and print production was brought in to examine the submitted work. Each entry was judged on its own merit in a category with similar printed pieces. The judging criteria included: registration, crossovers, clarity and neatness, sharpness of halftones and line drawings, richness and tonal qualities of color, paper and ink selection, ink coverage, difficulty of printing, effective contrast or softness, finishing, bindery, and overall visual impact.

Open House

Heritage Signs & Displays and the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce joined to celebrate the newly renovated facility in Charlotte. The expansion over doubled the footprint of Heritage Signs & Displays and provided their wide format division to upgrade numerous printing and processing equipment and add many new staff members to Heritage Signs & Displays.

Heritage Signs & Displays, a division of Heritage Signs & Displays, is purposely located close to a USPS hub, major logistics providers, and the Charlotte International Airport for expedited logistics. Heritage Signs & Displays can manufacture signs, banners and displays and easily ship to 30 east coast states within two days and overnight to almost any location in the world. The renovated production facility is over 14,000sf of sign manufacturing excellence!
