District Moving project Spotlight

Representatives from District Moving contacted Heritage Signs & Displays to print and apply new adhesive vinyl fleet graphics to some of their company moving vans at the sign shop in Louisville, KY. Heritage was the natural choice for the job given our experience with wide format printing and installing fleet graphics for company cars, vans, trucks, and other commercial vehicles in Louisville, KY, very often in the towns of Fort Washington, Upper Marlboro, and Oxon Hill, Louisville, KY.

The Process of Printing and Installing New Fleet Graphics

The team of signs and graphics experts at Heritage Signs & Displays specializes in wide format printing and was able to print the adhesive vinyl for District Moving’s trucks and vans using wide format printing technology. The graphics were printed using 3M adhesive vinyl according to District Moving’s approved logos and design specifications. The graphics were latex printed, laminated, and cut to fit the shape of the moving vans or semitruck trailer.

Heritage’s sign production facility in Louisville, KY has a garage for the purposes of installing fleet graphics. The District Moving vans were parked in the garage, where the sign installers securely adhered the new fleet graphics to the sides and the back of the moving vans. The semitruck trailers were parked in the parking lot and attached outside the garage with the same level of care. The graphics were applied without bubbling, wrinkling, or creasing to ensure that District Moving’s branding was displayed in a professional and consistent way.

Upon completing the installation, District Moving’s vans and semitruck trailers were newly branded with adhesive vinyl fleet graphics that not only reflected the company’s branding in a way that was visually appealing but would also withstand the elements and endure across the vast distances that District Moving vehicles regularly travel. Heritage Signs & Displays has maintained a strong working relationship with District Moving and will continue to do so in the years to come for all of their future fleet graphics, signage, and branding needs.

An Expert Interview About Meter Boards

Brent Thompson, Production Manager at Heritage Signs & Displays, is a signage expert, his graphic design experience spans over a decade. Here’s our conversation on meter boards.

How can I utilize a meter board?

Brent: We offer a variety of printing and processing methods that empower you to use a meter board as a wayfinding sign, menu board, POP sign and event signage. We have very few limitations, which enable your meter boards to accomplish many goals.

What are meter boards made from?

Brent: There are numerous substrates for meter boards, our primary boards are 1/2’” Ultra board, we also use Foamcore, and PVC substrates. We also offer a “green product” made from completely recycled material: Gatorboard, Converd board and Eagle Cell. The materials we use are mandated by the needs of the sign, a long-term usage meter board would normally be printed on Ultra board, with a single-use boards typically printed on Foamcore.

What are your meter board sign dimensions?

Brent: I can print meter board sizes up to 5’ x 10’ and any dimension within that, can be cut to meet your needs. The typical size is 7’ x 3’.

Can you contour cut my meter board?

Brent: Yes, our CNC Router can digitally produce almost any image. I have printed and custom cut meter boards with crown tops, round tops and made custom viewing areas for digital media., to name a few.

How do you erect meter board signs?

Brent: It depends on the substrate and need, we can make “feet” from the same board with slits precisely cut to attach them to the board. We offer a meter board sign base that will accept water to help outside meter boards withstand wind. We have an indoor use only base that is lightweight and attractive. We have also attached D rings to meter boards to hang from the rafters at an art exhibition.

What equipment do you use to manufacture meter boards?

Brent: We full-color print on a Mimaki JFX 200 and contour cut with an AXYZ 4010.

Tell me about your most interesting meter board project.

Brent: We had a large order for the National Academy of Medicines’ annual art show, that included 16-meter boards. I printed additional pieces of their art, custom cut them and adhered the art to the larger meter board, providing a 3-dimensional effect.

Second Surface Printing

Second Surface Window Graphics

Business owners and managers understand what storefront window graphics are and how effective they are in promoting foot traffic. What they don’t know is how the vinyl is printed.

Second surface is the practice of printing on the face (adhesive side) of the vinyl. This process enables the vinyl to be installed inside the building, away from the outdoor elements. Second surface graphics are protected from weather and exploring hands thus typically have a longer life expectancy than first surface.

Second surface graphics are printed in a “mirror image” to be a right reading image for viewers. A print ready image for second surface will be inverted in order to print as a first surface piece.

It’s more than just vinyl!

Second surface is used on many acrylic signage, it provides a richer, elegant appearance of the sign, especially a standoff lobby sign. Printing directly to the substrate, albeit acrylic, vinyl or glass, is done with any image, regardless of orientation.
