Building a Championship Environment: Branding the Home of UNC Wrestling
Heritage Signs & Displays created facility graphics for UNC Wrestling at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, NC. The project helped shape key spaces inside the Tar Heel wrestling facility with dimensional lettering, wall displays, acrylic signs, backlit displays, locker room signs, SEG fabric graphics, wall wraps, and installation services.
UNC Wrestling is part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Tar Heel athletic tradition. The program’s facility serves athletes, coaches, recruits, alumni, staff, and visitors throughout the year, making the visual environment an important part of how the program presents its history, identity, and daily standard.
The project needed to support more than one room or one display. UNC Wrestling wanted facility graphics that could honor program history, strengthen athlete spaces, recognize key areas, and create a more inspiring experience throughout the spaces wrestlers and staff use every day. Heritage supported that goal through design, production, and installation across several connected areas.
The Goldfeder Family Locker Room display created a dedicated identity moment for one of the program’s athlete spaces. Heritage produced and installed dimensional logo and lettering elements, including the UNC logo, Wrestling name, divider bar, and Goldfeder Family Locker Room text. The display gave the locker room entrance a stronger sense of place within the facility.
The wrestling mat room included one of the largest storytelling elements in the project: a backlit SEG timeline display. The display was built around UNC Wrestling history, coaching eras, program achievements, and archival imagery. This illuminated feature helped connect current athletes to the program’s legacy while giving the mat room a major visual anchor.
Heritage also produced and installed a countdown clock wall display for the wrestling mat room. The display combined dimensional graphics, a large UNC logo, quote elements, and an LED clock to support a training-focused environment. The finished wall reinforced motivation, timing, and team identity inside a space built for preparation.
The weight room received multiple branded elements, including a large crest display and the Spencer Nadolsky Weight Room header display. These pieces brought Carolina identity into the strength and training environment through dimensional materials, printed graphics, and wall-mounted displays.
Additional graphics carried the UNC Wrestling identity through transition spaces. Heritage produced and installed dimensional lettering and logo displays for stairwell landing areas, helping connect movement through the facility with Carolina wrestling culture. These displays gave functional pathways a stronger role in the athlete, recruit, alumni, and visitor experience.
The coach’s office included printed media guide displays and an argyle wall graphic. This portion of the project turned program history and visual assets into a curated interior display, adding context and tradition to an office environment used for coaching, meetings, and conversations about the program.
“The quality of their work is outstanding. Their signage and displays have transformed our space into an inspiring environment for our athletes and staff,” said Rob Koll, Head Wrestling Coach.
The completed work brought multiple parts of the UNC Wrestling facility into one connected visual environment. Locker room signs strengthened athlete spaces. Backlit displays and wall displays carried program history into the mat room. Dimensional lettering and logo displays reinforced identity in stairwells, training areas, and office spaces. Together, the project helped create a facility experience shaped around history, performance, preparation, and Carolina pride.
For Heritage, the UNC Wrestling project reflects how facility graphics can support athletic environments with purpose. Each display served a specific space, but the full scope helped connect athletes, staff, alumni, recruits, and visitors to the tradition and daily work of Tar Heel wrestling in Chapel Hill, NC.
“From start to finish, Taylor and the Heritage team demonstrated unparalleled professionalism, creativity, and dedication. They took the time to understand our vision for the wrestling facility and office, ensuring every detail was meticulously executed. The quality of their work is outstanding. Their displays transformed our space into an inspiring environment for our athletes and staff. What truly sets Heritage apart is their customer service. Taylor was responsive, attentive, and went above and beyond to accommodate our needs, even under tight deadlines,” said Rob Koll, Head Wrestling Coach.
